Sutter Health Selects Site of Care Systems to Support First Pregnancy and Delivery Initiative
Site of Care data management and outcome analysis tool enables strategic initiative for a leading healthcare network
San Francisco, CA, October 13, 2003—Sutter Health, one of the nation’s leading healthcare networks, and Site of Care Systems, the premiere provider of peri/neonatal clinical and financial technology solutions, announce a network-wide technology implementation in support of Sutter’s First Pregnancy and Delivery (FPAD) Initiative.
With 28 affiliates and 21 birthing units throughout northern California, Sutter selected Site of Care for its unique ability to meet the ever-changing government and medical reporting requirements of demanding peri/neonatal settings. Site of Care offers unparalleled tools for outcome analyses, the heart of quality healthcare. In addition, the Sacramento-based health network sought standardized workflow across its affiliates, a requirement that Site of Care’s technology could exceed.
The FPAD initiative, Sutter Health’s newest clinical improvement project, is aimed at improving outcomes for first-time mothers and their babies. First-time mothers are five-times more likely to undergo a Cesarean section, experience two-and-a-half times the labor length, deliver babies with nearly twice the admissions to neonatal ICU, and almost triple the cost of mothers with prior successful births. These overwhelming statistics have made first-time deliveries a prime obstetrical education/care focus and important clinical research project for Sutter Health. Site of Care technology sits at the center of this project to identify which labor practices lead to the best outcomes for mother and child. The system will also track progress throughout a series of rapid-cycle-change quality-improvement projects
Site of Care was an important strategic selection for Sutter Health. The unique infrastructure of the Site of Care technology employs a relational database that links baby and maternal records. This allows clinicians to seamlessly connect pertinent newborn clinical information to relevant maternal medical history, including medical information for all prior or subsequent deliveries. Site of Care is the industry’s only technology solution to enable this powerful outcome analysis.
"Sutter Health delivers over 40,000 births per year, representing 1% deliveries nationwide. This volume gives us an opportunity and responsibility to identify improvements in obstetrical care," said Elliott Main, MD, Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology of California Pacific Medical Center and Director of the FPAD Project. "Site of Care’s software provides a data collection and analysis solution, unparalleled in meeting this challenge. Thanks to Site of Care, Sutter Health has already seen significant measure improvements throughout our large system."
Site of Care President, Michael Dale, cites this project as evidence of the Company’s clinical information systems market leadership.
"Site of Care has proven time and again that we are the hands down choice for peri/neonatal settings. Sutter Health’s system-wide commitment is a further indicator of our leadership position," said Mr. Dale, President & CEO of Site of Care Systems, "Our company is committed to a cutting-edge position. Each new software release offers feature/function advances based on clinical input we receive from our growing client base."
